I got my head checked

By gaiJen

This week is brought to you by the letter 'B' and the Gregorian calendar. In the spirit of alliteration, I decided that 'B' week was a perfect time to review a British band and because I do not own any Beatles (and assumed that others might have more to say about them than moi) I thought that Blur would work.

Blur

So let's talk about Blur. I'm probably the only person on the planet that knew about the Gorillaz before I knew about Blur, despite the brief commercial success state-side of "Song 2". Quite honestly, I am not even sure how Blur's self titled album came to worm its way into my musical library. But there it is, between Black Kids and Bon Iver, just hanging out, maybe getting high occasionally and driving around town with all the car windows down–arm out, forearm in the sunlight. At least, that is sort of what listening to Blur feels like–a sort of lazy excitement that I associate with the summer season.

I never saw Blur in concert, but if you saw them, bully for you. Apparently they are done if this BBC article is to be believed: "No plans for Blur to record again".

Blur's music sounds like it was made by people capable of spending their weeks staring into bonfires and I'm o.k. with that.
