I love my B's

By Michael Holt

For me the A week proved to be a little disappointing as my library had only a few artists that I felt connected to. However, the B week has brought along a group of musicians that have inspired, relaxed, entertained, and amused me.

  • A.A. Bondy: A friend of mine recently introduced me to Bondy's album, "American Hearts" and I love it. It is a mixture of folk and soft rock that is easy to fall asleep to. My favorite song on the album is 'There's a Reason,' where Bondy talks about giving into fate. Beautiful.
  • Beyonce: Oh Beyonce. During her Destiny's Child days I wasn't the biggest fan of Beyonce, but now there is something about her and her music that makes me want to shake my booty. Indeed, during fall semester I used to do an impression of her music video for 'Single Ladies' with some other friends that proved to be such a hit that it inevitably was asked to be performed at any group function we went to. Not only do I admire Beyonce for her musical talents, but as well as for her acting talents, such as her portrayal of Deena Jones is Dreamgirls. Combining her musical and acting abilities has only increased my love of Beyonce.
  • Black Eyed Peas: Another group that never really struck a good chord with me until recently. Their catchy lyrics and ingenious rhythms and mixing make me want to blast their music out of the windows of my car (if it weren't broke down). Boom boom pow!
  • James Blunt: "You're Beautiful"...the music video creeps me out, but his voice and the band are so soothing to me that they make up for the fact that he is stalking a girl through the city, depressed he can't have her.
  • Michael Buble: I hated the Buble hype that happened a few years ago. But after returning to his album, "Call Me Irresponsible" I find his voice irresistible. Not only does he have a beautiful voice, but his covers of classics, such as "Me and Ms. Jones", are better than the originals, in my humble opinion. I'm glad I gave him another chance.
  • Sara Bareilles: One of my newest adorations in the music world. The passion in her music pierces me at times and provides such a visceral experience for me. Her music also provides amazing inspiration for movement. Check out Mia Michaels' choreography to Sara's "Gravity." "Gravity" has proven to be one of my favorite songs of all times. I can put it on repeat and listen to it for hours on end.

Now you can see why I love my B's.

  1. I just mostly think that Sarah Bareilles might be the most beautiful person alive. Almost as beautiful as her voice. And I was really into Buble and then the hype hit and I really wanted to hate him too, but that voice... I just can't deny it. It's perfect. We're still friends despite the hype. His covers are better than the originals, I completely agree. Even his Beatle covers, I can't believe I'm saying it! But I don't think he'll ever cover why don't we do it in the road?, so I think the sacred Beatle songs will stay safe.
