F is for Friendly Fires

By Sarah

This past June, after a few particularly challenging months on the personal front, I found myself in the mood to listen to upbeat music 24/7. Thus began an indie-electro-dance-pop phase, triggered by my stumbling upon the video for "Skeleton Boy" by Friendly Fires. It was catchy, and dance-y in the way I prefer (think more Chromeo, less C & C Music Factory).

In a rare move, I downloaded the song from iTunes (I'm more of a take-a-chance-on-the-whole-album kind of gal) and basically couldn't get enough. Setting a song on repeat is really only awesome for like, a day, and I bought their entire self-title debut.

Holy crap. If you wanna indie-dance your face off, check it out. This album dominated my iPod this summer (in addition to Passion Pit's Manners), and Friendly Fires made it on to every playlist and mix CD I created. Personal faves include "Skeleton Boy," "Strobe," and "Photobooth," which sounds like it could be a track off an LCD Soundsystem album. Give it a go.

  1. this is a great album, but is nothing compared to their live show. if they come to town cancel your plans or call in sick to work, but don't miss their show.
