Sometimes I need to get somewhere quickly, but sometimes I just want to dance down the street. For those days where dancing is required, I like to pump up The Octopus Project and shake booty all the way to work.
The Octopus Project is a 4 piece instrumental band of incredibly talented and in-sync musicians. Their songs fall into two categories that I am particularly fond of: Ass shakin' beats, and hauntingly beautiful theremin soaked melodies. Sometimes, they even manage to combine the two. I stumbled across their live show last summer at the Doug Fir in Portland and haven't been the same since. Their live energy cannot be matched. If you ever get the chance to see them live you should cancel all your plans, buy some ice packs, and call in sick to work because your butt will be sore from shakin' it all night long.

Thanks for the post - I like this! It's like a warmer Aphex Twin with a danceable beat that doesn't change time signatures every 10 seconds. Really fun video too. I'll look them up.
ReplyDeleteIf you like Octopus Project, check out Black Moth Super Rainbow. Their album Dandelion Gum helped spawn the OP. Specifically check out the song Sun Lips. Another group out of Chicago popularized it when they covered it in 08-09, FutureRock (www.futurerock.net). It was all a tribute to Chicago bands and good music. Anyway, my fav OP song is Backwards Altar. Good pic!
