By the time I heard the line "Please don't put your life in the hands/ Of a rock and roll band" from "Don't Look Back in Anger", I thought, well it's a little late for that. Okay, so not really. In high school, I did consider them an important band but not that important. By the time Oasis released thier second LP, What's the Story Morning Glory?, I had already been following the band for 2+ years, collected 8 CD singles and was positivley affected by their confident/boastful outlook on life. I'm sure most readers are familiar with the singles from the first two albums, which I still think are amazing. However, it's the non-album singles that I'm going to focus on. You can hear most of them from the Masterplan CD. If you enjoyed either of the first two albums I can't stress this collection (or the box sets!) enough. They were able to execute on so many tangential ideas that were the core of their sound. I'm sure anyone that frequents this blog can relate to that wonderful feeling of being into a band and the ecstasy of collecting every release you can find. From 1994-1999, that was what it was like for me with this band. Of all the singles from each LP I would rate the "Cigarettes and Alcohol" single (from Definitely Maybe) with "Listen Up" and "Fade Away" as the best ones; from …Morning Glory I would rate the the "Some Might Say" single with the songs "Acquiesce" and "Talk Tonight" as the best.
