s it a coincidence that my favourite european electro pop bands begin with A? I think not. Is it shameful that I can claim to have a favourite "european elctro pop band", again, I think not. But Alphabeat and Ace of Base fall into this category. Alphabeat mix funky 80s beats with boy/girl harmonies that have me skipping my way through my dreary London walks to work. There must be some influence from Ace of Base, another of my favourites in this category. More of the 90s classic, these tunes never fail to lift my spirits, altogether now, "I saw the sign.........".
Moving away from neo-classics of the "A" variety to just plain and simple classics. Ignoring the recent murder of their songs (Mamma Mia anyone?) it would be a crime for ABBA not to be mentioned here. They simply epitomise dodgey dance-floor moves. And for this they should be congratulated.
Claire's "A" run down:
- Alphabeat — Fascination
- Ace of Base — All That She Wants
- ABBA — Voulez Vous

Good call! I always wanted to hear the Ace of Base ladies sing with the Stereo MC's... "I saw the sign, and I'm not gonna go blind!" *sigh* it was only a dream. AoB were a guilty pleasure back in the day (should probably publish this anonymously).
