've been mildly stressed out about writing this post for the letter I… not too much going on for I bands for me. So, I'm cheating. I've made you a mini playlist of some of my favorite songs that begin with I. And in alphabetical order no less, because I'm a giant nerd:
- "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart," Wilco. This song crushes me every time I hear it. I've heard it covered several times over the years which always makes me find new and interesting things to love. (From Yankee Hotel Foxtrot)
- "I and Love and You," The Avett Brothers. If you're not listening to this band, I'm worried about the pureness of your soul. This is title track from their latest album, and it tugs on the heart strings.
- "I Came As a Rat," Modest Mouse. The Moon & Antarctica was released during my junior year of college, and along with Radiohead's Kid A rescued me from drowning in sea of my roommates' horrendous musical tastes, namely Enrique Iglesias and 98 Degrees. Yikes.
- "I Don't Know What I Can Save You From," Kings of Convenience. One of my top two KoC tracks. I'm not gonna say too much here as I plan to talk about them more for my K post in a few weeks. Stay tuned! (From Quiet Is The New Loud)
- "Icicle," Tori Amos. I bought this album (Under The Pink) when it was released and I was 14. It took me several listens before I picked up that this song is about um, er… making yourself um, happy. I'm blushing even as I type this.
- "Idioteque," Radiohead. From arguably the best album of the '00s, Kid A. See #3 above.
- "In The Aeroplane Over The Sea," Neutral Milk Hotel. This is an amazing album based on a depressing topic (the story of Anne Frank). Very sad that this band isn't still making music. (From In The Aeroplane Over The Sea)
- "Intervention," Arcade Fire. The change at 2:50-2:55 gets me every time. I'm dying to see this band live. (From Neon Bible)
- "Intuition," Feist. Her best song. That is all. (From The Reminder)
- "Island, IS," Volcano Choir. The recent joint venture of Bon Iver and Collections of Colonies of Bees–Unmap–will have to tide us over while Bon Iver is on hiatus until next year. I am obsessed with this song. Obsessed.
Happy listening!
