So much can be said about this song. If you were to listen in silence, it also explains itself. "Imagine" might be the best song ever written. It's depressing, hopeful, naïve, and hauntingly beautiful. It makes me miss John Lennon. This song is John Lennon. Like everyone, he had massive flaws but his music and actions spoke to change and improvement. Everything that he did in The Beatles and his solo career had a profound effect on everything that we know about music today. I think he really believed in what he wrote, even if it's widely considered to be unrealistic. Peace is easy to scoff at but it's never given a real chance. Whenever this song is played, my hope is that it will inspire good and change that is against the grain and radical.
