I is for Intuit

By Pat Gamble

Intuit by Ramona Falls is the debut "solo" album from Brent Knopf of Menomena. I'm a bit embarrassed that I don't know more about Brent Knopf's band Menomena. I live in Portland, and I go to shows and try to keep up on the musical happenings around here, but the only time I've ever heard or seen Menomena was in London in a pretty big packed club in the east end. If Intuit is a preview of what's to come from this project I suspect that this project will find a similar amount of acclaim and following as Menomena. Brent Knopf built these songs on incredibly well textured layers and uses a wide variety of instruments, but most of them revolve around minimal guitar and piano/keyboard lines. As much as I love some of this album I think whatever Ramona Falls makes in the future will be even better. Some of the later songs fall a bit short compared to the brilliance of the first half of the album.
